Handling in excess of 2.5 billion serving units annually and calling on 25,000 delivery points each week, BevChain is a leader in beverage supply chain solutions in Australia. BevChain operates from 25 distribution centres (DCs) in six states, with a fleet of over 200 vehicles and 700 employees. As a specialist in the warehousing and distribution of alcoholic beverages, BevChain understands the unique demands placed on the liquor industry and its customers, and tailors solutions to meet individual needs.
Network printing challenges
Across its network of DCs, BevChain had previously relied on stationary printing procedures.
“Stationary printers created challenges for us at BevChain, because they led to operator inefficiency and lower productivity through a lack of printing accuracy, issues with mislabelling, and congestion at the printing stations,” said Damian Watts, Warehouse Systems Manager, BevChain.
The search for a solution
In order to overcome the printing efficiency and productivity challenges it faced, BevChain turned to its technology integrator partner, Dematic. Dematic worked with BevChain to assess the warehouse and fleet processes in order to recommend the appropriate solution.
Dematic’s assessment went beyond focusing on technology - developing a thorough understanding of the layout of BevChain’s warehouse, its processes, and which technology changes could provide efficiency gains and cost savings to the current workflow.
“Dematic provided a proof of concept design, which tested the recommended printing technology in the actual production environment,” added Damian. “Once the full benefits of this solution were shared with us, we decided to integrate the Zebra QLn420 mobile printers.
