Australia’s leading natural health supplements supplier, Blackmores, has consolidated the company’s head office, manufacturing and distribution operations into its new Blackmores Campus at Warriewood in Sydney’s northern beaches. Raw materials feed through to production, and finished goods back through to storage and distribution. Materials handling is optimized at all stages, and the DC has been equipped with the latest generation of order picking technologies including smart conveyors, Voice Picking, RF and Pick-to-Light systems.

Ferdinand Gross, Germany

Ferdinand Gross, a major European supplier of fasteners and connectivity technologies, has installed a tailor-made and innovative storage and order fulfillment solution featuring the new Dematic Multishuttle. Order throughput times have been reduced from as much as 3.5 hours to as little as 30 minutes, and as a result, the company was able to extend the incoming order cut-off time by three hours.

Helukabel, Germany

Helukabel specializes in the manufacturing and sales of a wide variety of electrical cables, and serves 15,000 customers worldwide. The new logistics solution included a high-bay warehouse with 16,000 pallet location and seven stacker cranes. The stacker cranes replenish the bay racks for the picking of accessories, transport larger lots on pallets via conveyors directly to the picking stations and also return cable reels for cut-to-length orders as well as the remaining reels to the high-bay warehouse.

To do this, Dematic shortened the order picking paths and optimizing the routing of shipping cartons. The system now handles 100,000 picks per day. The project also included integration of the entire product flow into the SAP R/3 logistics software.
