The challenge: The Milchhof Magdeburg dairy is part of Nordmilch e.G., one of Germany’s five largest dairies. Recent success, especially with the "Milram" brand, led to expanded production, which made it necessary to optimize logistics and increase warehouse capacities.
The requirements were clearly defined: space-saving, efficient storage; direct linkage with the existing and expanding production operations; and integration of order picking and shipping. Most control systems and administrative functions are managed through a centralized ERP. Raw milk is always available for processing, even on Sundays!
Our solution: As the solution provider, Dematic developed, planned and implemented a highly automated warehouse with 4,320 storage positions and a pallet transport system for numerous types of pallets, with everything designed to deliver maximum availability. The scope of services also included the delivery of an entire rack and platform steel structural work, the storage/retrieval machines, the pallet conveyor systems, the control technology and the systems integration.
We integrated the IT components and the material flow system harmoniously into the existing warehouse management system SAP R/3. As a result, in the end the client had a comprehensive solution for a dynamic, hygienic and efficient process.
