Milestone "Müllermilch"

A milestone in Dematic's long years of cooperation with the Theo Müller corporate group – primarily known under its brand name "Müllermilch" – was implementing the logistics infrastructure and automation technology throughout the entire production chain at the Sachsenmilch AG plant in Leppersdorf (near Dresden). This dairy annually processes 1.4 billion liters of milk into cheese, soft cheese, butter, yoghurt, long-life milk and milk desserts. The company wanted to make its picking and dispatch procedures twice as effective – while maintaining all running operations. The goods reception area for raw, auxiliary and other resources was expanded and given its own building.

An additional warehouse for the same types of resources with room for 22,000 palettes and twelve aisle stackers was built. In the existing finished goods warehouse, handling capacity was nearly doubled by adding nine built-in aisle stackers – two of these machines now service one aisle. In addition, the capacity of the finished goods warehouse was expanded with a further block with four aisles and 9,800 palette spaces. Palette and overhead conveyors as well as four distribution wagons now supply the goods for over 200 replenishment channels in the picking area, without need for records.

Buffer storage with 1,000 palette storage spaces and six RBGs provides space for job-specific wares and ensures that picked palettes are ready for dispatch on time as well as coordinated with other palette shipments. Wares are placed on 60 gradients in the dispatch zone as part of the sorting procedure before dispatch to enable logical unloading from the delivery vehicle. Müllermilch also requested installation of a new IT system in its logistics department. This system provides administration services for all warehouses, centrally controls the entire flow of materials and is completely integrated into the customer-side SAP R/3 System via a certified interface.
