Dematic Standardised Automated Pallet Storage based on a Modular Principle

Heusenstamm, 17 March 2020 – Dematic has optimised its automation solution for pallet storage. With the Dematic Standardised Automated Pallet Storage, the intralogistics specialist offers a modular system of proven components that can be configured to meet specific customer requirements. It includes a rack system, automated Storage & Retrieval Machines (SRMs) with load handling devices, software and the pre-zone. The last feature accommodates, for example, pallet conveyors, picking stations, stations for contour measurement, weighing, storage and retrieval of pallets as well as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Since the individual components are standardised, the system can be installed and put into operation in a very short time. Its compact design and the flexibility to store palletised goods at single, double and even multiple depths makes optimum use of available space. It achieves throughput rates of up to 200 pallets per hour.

"Dematic Standardised Automated Pallet Storage works according to a modular principle. This means that it is not only ready to use quickly, but also can be adapted individually," says Mortimer von Tschirschky, Director of Operational Improvement & Technical Support Central Europe at Dematic. The automation solution is suitable for storing raw materials and finished products. It ensures short-term intermediate storage and the sequencing of articles for shipping goods. Dematic Standardised Automated Pallet Storage can be built up to a height of 45 metres. The number of aisles can be freely selected. "The compact design with its high storage density makes optimal use of available space, saving up to 20 percent of the space compared to a manual pallet storage system," says von Tschirschky. Access to the individual pallets is possible at any time. Depending on the type of configuration, the SRMs for this purpose quickly and precisely transport pallets weighing up to 1.5 tons (up to 5 tons for special constructions).

Furthermore, the automatic pallet warehouse can be adapted to the specific requirements of individual industries. For the food and pharmaceutical industries, the system is divided into different temperature zones. In the deep-freeze area, temperatures can be as low as -28°C. The Dematic Standardised Automated Pallet Storage handles long and bulky goods, making it suitable for the automotive, construction, steel and furniture industries. The automated material flow provides maximum safety for goods and, above all, employees. And the Dematic Standardised Automated Pallet Storage can be combined with other Dematic automation solutions such as AMCAP (Automated Mixed Case Palletising), Multishuttle, Miniload or Pouch Sorter.

The pre-zone especially features the flexibility of Dematic Standardised Automated Pallet Storage. Depending on the customer's requirements, for example, different components for picking and incoming and outgoing goods are integrated here. Before the pallets enter the warehouse, they are first checked fully automatically for suitability and weighed. "On the one hand, Dematic Standardised Automated Pallet Storage improves inventory management by providing seamless goods tracking. On the other hand, the pallets are exposed to fewer contact points, which reduces the susceptibility to errors," says von Tschirschky.
