Newest warehouse addition provides a fully automated receiving process which can manage Velilla’s 18,000 SKUs.

Madrid – 8 December 2025 – Dematic, a global leader in supply chain automation, has recently completed the third phase of a large, innovative warehouse automation integration with Velilla, a Spanish company that has been designing, producing and distributing technical workwear for over 75 years. It is active in over 70 international markets.

"For more than 15 years Velilla has been working together with Dematic to ensure that the automation in our facilities provides the edge we need to keep up with our growth forecasts down the road not to mention ahead of the competition today," says Antonio Tártalo, the Operations and Logistics manager at Velilla.

A few years ago, the family-owned flagship brand of the Velilla Group, anticipating linear sales growth of around 11 percent annually on average until 2030, wanted to expand its catalogue and sales volume. To do so required new stock requirements much higher than the current ones and the need to install a pallet automated storage and retrieval solution (AS/RS) allowing Velilla to increase the capacity in a scalable solution. Thanks to their strategic expansion plans and resulting gradual growth, the overall warehouse plans called for an additional phase to meet the growing business numbers.

Dematic Automation Expansion at Velilla Logistics Centre

In the latest phase of automation implemented by Dematic, a new AS/RS was installed with a total capacity of 22,400 pallet locations. With this addition, the facility now stores approximately 600,000 boxes when combined with the existing Dematic Miniload and Dematic Multishuttle® systems.

Adjacent to the automated pallet warehouse, Dematic has implemented a sequencer based on multishuttle technology. The system arranges the boxes received in bulk by Velilla and prepares single-reference pallets, which are then stored in the AS/RS.

From the pallet area, completed boxes can be sent directly to the dispatch area or used to replenish the Dematic Miniload and Dematic Multishuttle box storage zones. Return flows are generated for both the pallets delivering full boxes and those that are empty. Each box movement heading for the picking stations is managed from the checkout area, integrating both miniload and multishuttle operations. A corresponding return flow is also generated for the picked boxes.

This solution is capable of efficiently handling Velilla’s broad product range of around 18,000 SKUs, accommodating various carton sizes with precision and flexibility. The operational capacity allows Velilla to manage over 97,000 garments per day and 500,000 orders annually, which bolsters Velilla’s goals for continuous growth. The integration is managed by Velilla’s warehouse management software, ensuring smooth coordination across all automation layers.

One of the key benefits of this new facility is that it fully automates the receiving process. Velilla receives cartons from their factories and suppliers and the robot cell builds pallets for storage. “Velilla has once again put their trust in us to support them in growing their business,” explains Sonia Bello, the sales director at Dematic Iberia.

Next, the small Dematic Multishuttle sequences the inbound packages and sends the cartons in the correct order to the palletising robot according to palletising guidelines. The solution can easily handle Velilla’s wide variety of carton sizes and catalogue of SKUs.

“We having been working together with Velilla on a truly unique project. It is a strong example of how pallet warehouses have become a ‘must have’ for customers in the warehouse and storage facilities market in Iberia,” explains Pablo Garcia, a senior director and the country manager for Dematic Iberia adding, “with good execution, proper data analysis, and strong customer service support over the years, a strong trusting relationship can be built where innovation is both desired and expected with each new project from the customer.”
