The Liquor Control Board of Ontario

A high-performance facility

Already running at full capacity, and with business growing rapidly, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario makes the transition to a new facility and a new material handling system.

The challenge: build a high-performance facility

Build a facility that serves two different types of customers: Route delivery and pick-ups. Handle all orders from both the LCBO’s licensee customers and orders from almost 200 LCBO retail stores.

The solution: an integration of technologies

The solution included a move to an 112,000 square-foot facility in Mississauga and the implementation of a unique material handling system by Dematic. The facility incorporates an integration of technologies — RF, WMS and 2,000 feet of conveyors with automatic route stop sortation — to accommodate the accurate receipt, storage, order selection and shipping of wine and spirits.

The results are in

The material handling system implementation was so successful at the Greater Toronto Area facility, that the LCBO implemented the system at two of its other facilities.  Currently, the GTA facility carries 2,500 SKU’s located throughout the main and mezzanine floors, with room for expansion as the business grows.
